Organization Mission and Description
“MPSA is committed to the advancement of our profession & the development of student pharmacists by providing extracurricular opportunities that foster professional engagement”
The Minnesota Pharmacy Student Alliance is the professional student organization for students at the University Of Minnesota College of Pharmacy in Minneapolis and Duluth. This organization was created as an alliance of six professional pharmacy associations offering student membership:
• The American Pharmacists Association (APhA)
• The Minnesota Pharmacists Association (MPhA)
• The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)
• The Minnesota Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP)
• The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA)
• The International Pharmaceutical Students' Federation (IPSF)
• The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP)
• The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP)
MPSA is for pharmacy students on the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses. It is an umbrella organization, so membership in MPSA can include membership in APhA-ASP, ASHP, MPhA, MSHP, NCPA, IPSF and AMCP (see here for descriptions of these organizations). MPSA holds weekly meetings where members hear lectures from pharmacists in different types of careers, learn about current legislative issues and develop skills important for becoming a pharmacist. MPSA also directs several events within the college including Patient Care Projects (PCPs), the Mexico Trip and the OTC Case Competition.
MPSA's activities focus on the professional development of students, community service projects, and advocating for the profession of pharmacy.
